Health & Fitness science: Maintain healthy mitochondria through exercise-induced mitophagy.

Mitochondria
Health in muscles and heart.
Life is your own art.

New research once again showcases how exercise improves muscle health and, exercise capacity and how that positive mechanism with perpetual fitness regimes in the end greatly improves general health and longevity for each individual.
Allowing continued fitness activity to become one of the finest predictors we have of general mortality and biological health and wellbeing in any given population and individual.
This particular study was published in the journal Nature Communications and it digs deep down inside our bodies as it takes a long look at how exercise helps the body and mind keep healthy and strong by transforming and maintaining our body on a cellular level.

"Whether ( the ) muscle is healthy or not really determines whether the entire body is healthy or not,"
- lead researcher Prof. Zhen Yan
University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.

Exercise improves each individual's muscles & health by aiding and maintaining our biological capacity to renew our mitochondria which you can think of as a cellular wheel that is as crucial to the wellbeing and function of our entire body as it is tiny. When you maintain daily fitness activity everything simply put works much better.

Put another way, Mitochondria is the water mill that propels our entire ecosystem forward.
Remove the wheel or ignore its maintenance and you will start to lose both speed and stability and durability in your water mill and everything it powers.

And that is exactly what happens inside our bodies when we either maintain and improve our mitochondria through fitness and healthy life choices or allow it to break down due to inactivity and unhealthy choices.

On a tiny, cellular level where our mitochondria dwell they help us in quite a lot of ways, and one of them is by turning the food we eat into healthy high functioning energy, transforming proteins, fats, and sugars into the efficient fuel we need to live and properly function near perfect health and max capacity in muscles, brain and heart, tissue, and cells.
The better shape our mitochondria is kept in, the healthier and more efficient our entire body becomes at functioning, think of poorly maintained mitochondria as you trying to power your Tesla with unhealthy coal, and fit & healthy mitochondria as a perfectly maintained Tesla running on the worlds finest and most efficient solar power and the better choices you make, the brighter the sun shines that powers your car and home.

[ 'The way toward better health.' ]

Another way to think of mitochondria is as a next-generation fusion power plant because they truly are our own internal power plants and they feed our entire body with delicious energy in a cycle that will either turn out to be of sustainable or unsustainable nature and the choices you make is the decision maker that decides if your system will break down or keep fresh and healthy.

So, how does exercise affect the mitochondria in our bodies in such a healthy way? The answer given by this study is on a very narrow level something we can describe as "mitophagy."
And mitophagy describes the process by which damaged or broken down mitochondria is either repaired or towed away from the system and replaced by new and brightly shining mitochondria.
So, in the case of muscles & fitness, mitophagy in physically active people contributes to you keeping your entire body & mind biologically young and healthy by keeping your skeletal muscle healthy and strong.
Maintain that fitness activity and maintain the course of making healthy food and life choices on a daily level and in turn, your body will maintain the upkeep on its own mitochondria, removing or fixing up worn down mitochondria in a highly efficient way, which in turn will keep the sustainable power on inside your entire system. Keeping your brain and skin, as fit and healthy as your biceps, heart, and ass.

Sedentary people lose that maintenance at a much, much higher level and at a much higher pace. And poor food choices affect people in equally bad ways.
Which in turn helps explain how people that maintain lifelong fitness with healthy food choices have been proven to be up to 3 or 4 decades younger biologically speaking on the inside than equally old but sedentary people.
As for the mitophagy, in this particular study it was directly proven through the use of gene modification that physical fitness directly triggered a healthy round of mitophagy roughly 6 hours post workout. And as such, fitness keeps your entire body fresh and healthy by triggering the replacement of broken down parts on a cellular level inside of you.

    Life in the Anthropocene.

In a world of global progress in a lot of important aspects, we can never close our eyes to the simple fact that hundreds of millions of people around this beautiful world are witnessing how their lives are becoming increasingly worse.
    quote:
“In a time of rapid technological change leading to huge gains in living standards, it is perverse that hundreds of millions are seeing living standards actually decline, creating a sense of injustice among them and failure among those entrusted with their care,” “No wonder they feel their voices are unheard and their futures uncertain.”

    Health at a Glance
    A European health report 2017
    Fitness & Health.

Health at a Glance is a European health report for 2017. And in it the United Kingdom is revealed to be Western Europes most obese nation.
So, perhaps, fish and chips and beer just isnt the best of national food obsessions.
Another important highlight that bounces right back at you is how obesity in the UK has increased by 92% since the 1990s ( it´s been increasing in every nation btw, but good ol England is leading the pack ).

And since we also know by now that obesity & overweight is not just about a individual increase in body fat %, which would have been perfectly fine and all down to personal preferences in body composition and aesthetics, but instead is directly tied to a huge increase in several health issues, such as diabetes & cancer and severely decreased quality of life and longevity.

Every year the number of people that die prematurely due to worldwide pollution keep on increasing. And right now that pollution in water, soil, air, chemical or work-related pollution is already taking the life of 9 million people around the world.

Let us think about that for one more second, every single year 9 million people end up dying prematurely due to the modern day pollution we all contribute to.

    Plastic Litter
Tap water, Sea salt & Food.
    Life in the Anthropocene.

In Europe, 72% of all tap water contains 1.9 fibers of plastic litter per 500ml of water.
That number increases to 94% of all tap water in the USA which contains 4.8 plastic litter fibers per 500ml of water. And worldwide 83% of all tap water contains plastic litter.
But the issue of plastic contamination in our water is not just about tap water, nor is it, as we have previously talked about, only a concern with sea food. This is a growing man-made health issue which has been going on for a very long time and by now it is part of every aspect of society and our natural world.
For instance, scientists found plastics in products in studies on Chinese Sea salt in 2015.

Question number 12 in our School of Fitness.
Today's question, running is a super healthy aspect of any fit & healthy lifestyle. But the brunt of running too often also put intense pressure and wear on feet and knees and tibia since our lower body absorbs almost all of the impact while we run.
So how often do the average runner ( in general ) smash their delicate feet's and shin bone into that immovable ground per minute while they are ramping up the miles.
