Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 17, is there a correlation between the rise in obesity, calories consumed and sedentary living?.

Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 17 in our School of Fitness.
Let us focus on obesity for the next few questions, and the first one out is the increase of sedentary living & the individual increase in calories per day that people consume through their dietary choices and how that correlates, or not, to the presumed increase in people that can be categorized with obesity.
Do we have a clear-cut correlation? Or do you believe that people neither move around less, eat more calories per day, or grow more obese?.
Let´s for argument's sake compare today's ( last few years ) situation with 1975.

Make up your mind, and once you have made your pick click the "And the Correct Answer is" label down below to reveal the right one.

1.
No, of course not, there is absolutely no correlation between individual food choices and activity level and obesity. Obesity is all about genetics. Some are unfortunate enough doomed to become obese and no amount of healthy & tasty food and healthy fit activity choices will change that.
2.
While genetics do matter to a minor extent, for 99,99% of humanity it does come down to simple fitness science and the daily choices you make over time. Health, fitness, and obesity are 100% progressive, but it takes longterm choices that´s repeated on a daily basis, there are no quick fixes whose results will last the day you stop making those better choices.
Overeat on calories per day and your body will always store the excess energy as body fat, and there is virtually no stop gap for the amount of body fat we can store over the years.
So 500 kcal of excess calories per day quickly becomes a lot of excess body fat over 1 year and gigantic over 10 and 20 years time, and your genetics can never change that.

Being too inactive physically speaking only exacerbate that simple truth. The less we move around in a challenging & low impact way, the less energy we need to feed the system and the less effective our bodies becomes at staying healthy & fit.

Bad food choices obviously impact the situation too. There really is a big difference in the quality of the food we can choose to eat.
The good thing is that every human being can go both ways, you can always go out of shape and you can always tone it up in health & fitness, but it is all about the daily choices you make from this day on out.

Option nr 2 is the correct one.
Obesity has increased worldwide 10 fold since 1975. In 1975 1% of male and female kids and adolescents could be labelled as obese, and in 2016 that number had increased to 6% females and 8% males. And in Nauru, the Cook Islands and Palau, more than 30 percent of children and teenagers were considered obese in 2016.
The number for adults are, however, much much worse, in USA some regions now count close to 50% obesity amongst middle incomes aged 40-50.
During the same time frame, it has been shown that people on average consume almost 800kcal more per day than they used to do in the 197x´s.
And, of course, the food industry has also been shown to promote crappy, low nutritious food and unhealthy food habits during the very same time frame. Coupled with a huge decrease in daily physical activity with some people moving in a very low impact way, less than 30 minutes per day in total and zero real fitness and workouts at all.
A sad situation that´s creating not just this gigantic increase in unhealthy body fat %, it has also skyrocketed a long range of health issues, such as diabetes and obesity-related cancer & cardiovascular health issues. The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008 U.S $ and the medical costs for people who have obesity were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight, and those numbers have only increased since 2008.

The solution is as simple as it is obvious.
Educate about health & fitness, inspire, train, show & teach and more than anything, live a healthier life of physical fitness, eat healthy food and help others do the same.
And please, stop promoting bad fitness and health science and tips and products, if you are a real health & fitness living person, stay real and promote healthy, fit choices that´s true. Please let us see an end to the endless fitness gurus that keep on promoting junk ideas and junk science.

“These data highlight, remind and reinforce that overweight and obesity is a global health crisis today, and threatens to worsen in coming years unless we start taking drastic action.”

Health at a Glance is a European health report for 2017. And in it the United Kingdom is revealed to be Western Europes most obese nation.
So, perhaps, fish and chips and beer just isnt the best of national food obsessions.
Another important highlight that bounces right back at you is how obesity in the UK has increased by 92% since the 1990s ( it´s been increasing in every nation btw, but good ol England is leading the pack ).

And since we also know by now that obesity & overweight is not just about a individual increase in body fat %, which would have been perfectly fine and all down to personal preferences in body composition and aesthetics, but instead is directly tied to a huge increase in several health issues, such as diabetes & cancer and severely decreased quality of life and longevity.

Allowing continued fitness activity to become one of the finest predictors we have of general mortality and biological health and wellbeing in any given population and individual.
This particular study was published in the journal Nature Communications and it digs deep down inside our bodies as it takes a long look at how exercise helps the body and mind keep healthy and strong by transforming and maintaining our body on a cellular level.

    Plastic Litter
Tap water, Sea salt & Food.
    Life in the Anthropocene.

In Europe, 72% of all tap water contains 1.9 fibers of plastic litter per 500ml of water.
That number increases to 94% of all tap water in the USA which contains 4.8 plastic litter fibers per 500ml of water. And worldwide 83% of all tap water contains plastic litter.
But the issue of plastic contamination in our water is not just about tap water, nor is it, as we have previously talked about, only a concern with sea food. This is a growing man-made health issue which has been going on for a very long time and by now it is part of every aspect of society and our natural world.
For instance, scientists found plastics in products in studies on Chinese Sea salt in 2015.
